After two years of conjecture and speculation, Brianna LaPaglia is sharing what allegedly went down at Noah Kahan's 2024 Fenway Park concert when her ex-boyfriend Zach Bryan was rumoured to come out with Kahan, but ended up being a no-show.
Ahead of attending Kahan's 2026 Fenway Park stint, during which the Vermont native became the first artist to sell out four shows at the home of the Boston Red Sox, LaPaglia decided to “spill some motherf***ing tea” and let fans in on what supposedly happened.
LaPaglia begins, “Let's start back in the good old days. So in 2018, my friends and I...one of my friends knew Noah from growing up. I'm from New England, obviously. We loved his music. We loved watching him perform. We went to one of his...I mean, it was a show, but I don't know if you could classify it as a ‘show’. It was at this random park in New Hampshire. I think there were like 15 people there, and I just remember telling him, ‘You're gonna be the next Ed Sheeran!’ Why did I say that? Anyway, then we all hung out that night, and I've been the biggest fan ever since. I think the best thing in life you can be is a fan. I'm a fan of so many people. I think his music changes people's lives. I'll never shut up about it”.
She goes on to claim that, despite the fact that they collaborated on ‘Sarah's Place’, Bryan wasn't even a fan of Kahan's music, “The last Noah Kahan concert I went to was also at Fenway, but it was ruined by my ex-boyfriend. So the last show that Noah was playing at Fenway, or the last time that he came to Fenway...I always want to give back to my best friends from growing up, my family, and just like whenever I have opportunities to do cool things with them, I do it. So I was like, ‘This is gonna be amazing. I'm gonna bring them all to Noah Kahan’. I tell my ex that. Keep in mind, I'm not even allowed to listen to Noah Kahan because he was so f***ing jealous of him. My favourite song at the time was ‘Maine’. Every time I played it, he's like, ‘What does he even f***ing mean? Why is there a camera in a streetlight?’ I had to sit him down and explain to him what it f***ing meant”.
Although it obviously pales in comparison to some of the things Bryan has been accused of over the years, on the music side of things, we and fellow Kahan fans will not be standing for any ‘Maine’ disrespect. It's one of Kahan's most intricate, evocative offerings and a gem in his catalogue, and remains a fan-favourite whenever he performs it live. And if Bryan really was questioning the lyrics, then that is bizarre behaviour from an artist that prides himself on his poetic storytelling.
LaPaglia continues with her account of the show day, “Anyway, besides the point, so I tell him I'm like, ‘We're home. I'm gonna surprise all my friends. I'm gonna bring everyone to Noah Kahan’. He was like, ‘Perfect. I'll play with him. I'll be the surprise guest’. I'm like, ‘What? You don't even like this man’. But I'm like, ‘Whatever. Okay, now that he's gonna be going, then we'll get VIP treatment...Honestly, cool’. It was the night before Noah Kahan. You guessed it. Motherf***er got angry drunk...I literally blocked this time out of my life, but I just remember waking up and being like, ‘Hey, I'm gonna go to the show that you're playing at. You're playing at Fenway f***ing Stadium. Fenway Ballpark, motherf***er. You don't just get to skip Fenway Ballpark, mother***er. [He's] like, ‘No, I can't do it. I can't do it’. I'm like, ‘Why? Why? You have to do it. You can't tell someone that you're going to perform with them and then not do it’. ‘[I'm] too hungover. I don't want to go’. Get the f*** up. Do you know the things that I've done when I'm hungover? Anything. Being hungover is not an excuse. Are you hungover because of yourself? So if you have an obligation - then make it work”.
LaPaglia expands, “Anyway, he's like, ‘Maybe I'll meet you there’. I'm like, ‘Okay, whatever’. So I'm like his keeper at this point, right? Like, I'm meeting up with Noah Kahan's team. They still think that he's coming. They still think that he's coming to perform. And I'm, like, so uncomfortable. I don't know what to do. They keep asking me like, ‘When's he gonna be here? Like, is he coming?’ I'm like, ‘Yeah. I don't know’, because he's calling me, being like, ‘Maybe I'll come. Maybe I'll come’. Show's about to start, and obviously, like, the guilt hits him, and he's like, ‘Oh my God, I can't believe I'm not showing up for this guy’. Then I get this phone call: ‘The only reason I f***ing agreed to it is because you like him. I only did this for you. This is all your fault. My reputation's on the line’. Concert starts. Keep in mind, I'm with all of my hometown best friends, my family. It's a really important, special time. I spend half the concert crying in the bathroom because I'm getting screamed at. I still have people on their team be like, ‘So, is he coming?’ Because he's telling people he's f***ing coming. Like, ‘I don't know. I'm not his manager. I literally don't know’. It's time for Noah to bring up a special guest. Noah comes out and he's like, ‘I had someone really special. They couldn't make it. They canceled’. Everyone's staring at me, like it's my f***ing fault. And at this point, I feel like it's my f***ing fault because I'm getting told it's my f***ing fault. Show ends. I get home. He's like, ‘Baby, how was the show? I'm so sorry I couldn't make it’. I'm like, ‘Oh, you're bats*** f***ing insane’”.
The former BFF's Podcast co-host then touches on how she defended Bryan via the podcast, and claims she lied on his behalf when she said he wasn't drunk and wasn't meant to come out with Kahan at Fenway Park, “And then
all the rumours start flying. Everyone obviously figures out that he was supposed to be the special guest. This motherf***er made me defend his honour on my podcast...Just lying through my f***ing teeth for a sack of s***. For a sack of s***. For no reason. To ‘protect my baby’. Oh f*** off, dude...There will be no man to ruin my experience tonight...Keep in mind, I never talk about my ex, even with the stories I f***ing have. [I'm] saving them for something I'm working on”.
Bryan has never commented on supposedly bailing on Kahan in 2024, other than sharing a photo to Instagram of a FaceTime call with the ‘Stick Season’ hitmaker suggesting there was no bad blood between them, and dismissing the rumours of a fall-out.
The other shame with all of this is the timing, with Kahan making history with his four-night run at Fenway Park, a moment that is undoubtedly one of the most special in his career.
With LaPaglia sharing this story at this time, while she should of course always feel free to share her truth amidst all the alleged emotional abuse she has accused Bryan of, it feels like bringing this up now may have tainted Kahan's Fenway stint. On Google, for instance, searches for “zach bryan noah kahan” are up significantly, while you would hope that, instead, the focus would be on Kahan's achievement.
Either way, regardless of what reportedly happened between Kahan and Bryan, nothing can take away from how colossal this accomplishment is, with the ‘Northern Attitude’ crooner cementing himself as one of the most beloved artists in New England. During his Fenway Park run, Kahan was honoured with his very own ‘Noah Kahan Day’ in Massachusetts on July 11th, 2026 by Governor Maura Healey, highlighting once again his well-earned meteoric ascent in recent years.
