After amassing a cult following through evocative, weather-worn singles such ‘Don't Come Home’ and ‘Riverbank’, Colton Bowlin is treating us to his debut album, Grandpa's Mill.
As a Holler exclusive, Bowlin is premiering one of the many stand-outs from that project, ‘Time For Sale’, which finds the Kentucky native reflecting on how easily the sands of time can slip through our fingers. As he wistfully croons across the noodling instrumental, we often only see the beauty of the moment once it's passed.
Recruiting revered producer David Ferguson - who is known for his stellar work with Kentucky trailblazer, Tyler Childers - to take the helm for Grandpa's Mill, Bowlin's rich, yearning vocals combine seamlessly with the raw, pared-down compositions throughout.
The project features the already-released ‘Clinton County’, ‘Don't Come Home’ and ‘State Lines’. Of the latter, a bittersweet cowboy love-story, Bowlin explains, “Long roads sometimes feel like a memory. ‘State Lines’ tells the story of a man trying to leave love behind but realizing that it follows him wherever the highway takes him”.
Grandpa's Mill cements Bowlin's status as one of the most exciting new voices in the alt-country and Americana space, as does his role as support on Benjamin Tod's 2026 tour.
‘Time For Sale’ captures the philosophical, introspective ambience that permeates the wider project, along with Bowlin's capacity for visceral, thought-provoking storytelling.
