Forrest Frank has dropped a genre-blurring new collaboration with Lost & Found and ZVC, ‘2 STEP THE ENEMY’, with the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) trailblazer exploring his country side. The uptempo track is full of playful, spiritual wordplay, as the artists collectively share how much strength they draw from their faith.

Forrest’s latest single continues a hot streak of releases for the ‘GOOD DAY’ hitmaker, with the Texas native gearing up for his eagerly awaited new album, which is widely expected to be called The Jesus Generation - the same name as his 2026 tour.

Throughout ‘2 STEP THE ENEMY’ - as the title suggests with its reference to the classic Texas country dance - Forrest explores retro country textures as he reflects on how he relies on his faith to overcome any challenges the devil might send his way.

It finds Forrest eschewing the bright, lo-fi Pop and sleek, rap-inspired sounds he has preferred in recent years. But Forrest has always had a soft spot for country music, with his debut solo album after departing from Surfaces titled California Cowboy.

What's more, just last year, Forrest linked up with country titan Thomas Rhett for the irresistibly infectious ‘NOTHING ELSE’, one of the many stand-outs from his ‘CHILD OF GOD II: BACK TO BACK’ studio album. That project also produced joyful fan-favourites such as ‘OUTSIDE’, ‘HAPPY’, ‘LEMONADE’ with The Figs and ‘AMEN’.

Throughout the 2020’s so far, Forrest has cemented himself as one of the most versatile and engaging artists in the CCM space, connecting with younger listeners and drawing huge crowds, while never watering down the Jesus-led message of his music.

We think ‘2 STEP THE ENEMY’ might well be the only country-leaning offering on The Jesus Generation, but with the playfully positioned cowboy boots on the single artwork, there’s no question that this track is intended to resonate with country listeners.

And given how catchy, uplifting and inventive this song is, we think it’s safe to say Forrest accomplishes his mission. With Thomas Rhett continuing to hint at a potential gospel project on the horizon, we’d love to see a ‘country remix’ of ‘2 STEP THE ENEMY’ featuring TR. Given how Forrest just released an entire project of remixed renditions of ‘JESUS IS ALIVE’ with an array of different collaborators, perhaps this revamped TR duet isn’t as fanciful a proposition as it might at first seem…
