During a couple of recent tour-stops on the band's Prizefighter North America run, Mumford & Sons have been light-heartedly poking fun at their good friend, Noah Kahan.
While introducing their rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's iconic song, ‘The Boxer’, Marcus Mumford reveals that Kahan learned who Simon & Garfunkel were through their cover.
During one show, Marcus interrupts the introduction and turns to the crowd with a playful - and perhaps even a little devious - glint in his eye, before revealing, “Fun fact. Noah Kahan discovered Simon & Garfunkel through our version of this song”.
He goes on to joke, “I mean, we love Noah, but what a c***, before interrupting the song again shortly after to guiltily apologise for his choice of words, “Sorry, that was terrible”.
At a separate show, Mumford again shared the amusing story about Kahan, declaring to the crowd, “Here's a funny factoid for you - try and humiliate one of our friends. Noah Kahan discovered Simon & Garfunkel through our version of this song. Motherf***er never heard of Simon & Garfunkel! Just listened to Mumford & Sons all the way through his childhood”, before quipping, “He's a weasel, you're right”.
What makes this particularly funny is the fact that Kahan recently performed a stunning version of Simon & Garfunkel's timeless classic, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, at the 2026 Emmys in Los Angeles last month, as part of the In Memoriam segment.
It's all in good taste, with Mumford and Kahan close buddies. Given how Kahan upholds a very tongue-in-cheek tone across socials, we imagine he enjoyed Mumford's jovial barbs.
We're still hoping we one day get to hear a collaboration between Kahan and Mumford & Sons, especially given how the ‘Stick Season’ hitmaker has cited the British folk trailblazers as one of his biggest influences when he was getting into music.
They've joined forces on-stage in the past, performing Shania Twain's ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ last August, with both artists having a mutual reverence of country music.
If you combine Mumford and Kahan's visceral, evocative lyricism and their shared ability to craft both haunting, ethereal melodies and rousing, stadium-sized hooks, we think a collaboration would sound incredible. What would be especially hilarious is if they team up for a reimagined cover of Simon & Garfunkel's ‘The Boxer’...
