Gary LeVox has said he doesn’t want to hear Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ anymore - but not for the reason you might think. The Rascal Flatts frontman actually loves the song. The problem he has - like many of us - is that he cannot get it out of his head.

Speaking on the Big D & Bubba radio show, LeVox joked that he might have to “put Ella in a chokehold” if he heard it again. Not because it is bad. Because the moment that melody starts, he is “done for the day” and will hum it for hours. We feel you Gary, we all feel you! But isn’t that the best compliment a song can receive? And undoubtedly one of the many reasons for its global chart-topping success.

It is easy to fall out of love with a track when it becomes so popular that it is everywhere. And after spending 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘Choosin’ Texas’ really is everywhere. This is not even the first time LeVox has admitted defeat over the song. What makes it even more funny is in June, he shared his own “she’s from Ohio I can tell” version, tagged Langley and jokingly thanked her for the “insomnia”.

Langley wrote ‘Choosin’ Texas’ alongside Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. The song reportedly came together in around 30 minutes during a writers’ retreat.

As the unmistakable voice behind Rascal Flatts’ ‘Life Is a Highway’ - which recently joined Spotify's Billions Club - LeVox knows exactly what happens when a song becomes impossible to escape, as one of the Big D & Bubba hosts pointed out.

So this is not really criticism. It is a massive, slightly sleep-deprived compliment from one of the greats. A melody created in around half an hour has become one of the biggest songs in the world. And even Gary LeVox cannot stop singing it.
