Rascal Flatts’ now-iconic 2006 Tom Cochrane cover, ’Life is a Highway’, has surpassed one billion streams on Spotify, becoming only the 17th country song to achieve this feat.
‘Life is a Highway’ has become a staple of any country-themed party playlist, with Rascal Flatts’ uptempo version of the classic track famously appearing in Disney Pixar's Cars.
Flatts’ infectious, energising song joins the likes of Shaboozey's ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’, Zach Bryan's ‘Something in the Orange’, Morgan Wallen's ‘Last Night’, Chris Stapleton's ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ and more in Spotify's prestigious Billions Club.
Interestingly - but perhaps not surprisingly, given Spotify was launched to the public in 2008 - ‘Life is a Highway’ becomes the oldest country song to surpass one billion streams.
Over 1,300 songs have reached the one billion mark on Spotify, but bizarrely, only 17 of these are country. It's therefore a remarkable feat for the Rascal Flatts trio - consisting of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney - to join this pantheon.
A number of country artists have songs that are approaching this achievement. Wallen has an array of songs on the brink of joining the Billions Club, with the Sneedville titan already having four tracks in there: ‘Wasted On You’, ‘I Had Some Help’ with Post Malone, ‘Whiskey Glasses’ and, of course, his record-breaking hit, ‘Last Night’. We suspect it won't be long until he propels a few more past this milestone.
