During the Nashville premiere of Lainey Wilson's new Keepin’ Country Cool Netflix documentary, the ‘Can't Sit Still’ singer-songwriter has revealed what has kept her motivated throughout her ascent into one of the biggest stars in modern country music.

Wilson was taking part in an intimate Q&A following the screening of her keenly anticipated documentary, which will be made available to stream on Netflix from April 22nd, 2026.

As well as candidly delving into her mental health journey and her relationship with her fiancé, Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges, Wilson touches on what has driven the reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year to go further than so many of her contemporaries.

Wilson highlights how, depending on the season she finds herself in, her central motivation can vary, “The truth is...the things that drive me are constantly changing. Which is cool, because I feel like for a while I had a lot of people to prove wrong, you know, and then I realized, ‘Okay, now I have a lot of people to prove right’”.

The ‘4X4XU’ hitmaker clarifies, “There are a lot of people who have given me opportunity and chances, whether it's Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, playing these mini venues. Then, even when I got here [in Nashville]...I try to pick and choose the things that I want to drive me. Sometimes it is being p***ed off, and sometimes it is wanting to prove everybody who has been there and who has like seen me on this journey do it. Also, now I have a lot of fans that believe in me and show up and sacrifice a lot to buy the ticket. I have a lot of people that I want to keep happy”.

Although she references the desire to show people that doubted she had what it takes to be a country chart-topper, Wilson's rise has always been underpinned by a widely acknowledged spirit of warmth, geniality and camaraderie.

For instance, Wilson makes a point of always trying to help elevate her fellow female artists, with the Louisiana native regularly toasting Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley and more.

But at the same time, it's evident that Wilson has a strong sense of competitiveness and ambition, too, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to cement herself as one of the most popular and influential figures in today's country music landscape.

Wilson undoubtedly deserves her spot at the pinnacle of the genre, and we're excited to gain a behind-the-scenes look at her rip-roaring adventure soon on Keepin’ Country Cool.
