“It’s Not Out Of The Question”: Luke Grimes on a ‘Marshals’ and ‘Dutton Ranch’ Crossover

Luke Grimes has confirmed that he's had conversations with Kelly Reilly about a potential crossover between their two Yellowstone spin-offs, Marshals and Dutton Ranch.

Grimes, who stars as Kayce Dutton in Marshals, has revealed to TV Insider that he and Reilly - who plays Beth Dutton in Dutton Ranch - have been texting about the idea.

Grimes and Reilly were fan-favourites in the original Yellowstone series, with the fact that Kayce and Beth are siblings meaning a crossover would certainly make sense.

The American Sniper star outlines, “It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point. Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk”.

Excitingly, Grimes goes on, “[Kelly and I have] texted about it back and forth a lot, talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end”.

Without giving too much away, Kayce's son, Tate, finds himself heading to Texas at the end of Marshals Season One. With Dutton Ranch taking place in the Lone Star State, this could pave the way for a fascinating crossover as Kayce retrieves Tate.

During a previous conversation with TV Insider after the Dutton Ranch Season 1 finale, Reilly confirmed she would also be interested in a crossover, “I think Beth misses her brother, so I would love that to happen. And we were all very close. Wes Bentley, who played Jamie, Kelsey [Asbille]. We were a family, and we miss them very much”.

She went on, “So the more we can get back in, that’s what we’re fighting for, Cole [Hauser] and I. Where we get our wishes, we would love to have as many back in our world”.

Reilley underlined that she felt Beth would want to make sure Kayce is coping okay, following the loss of his wife, Monica, who was played by Asbille, “I would absolutely imagine that there’ll be some checking in on her brother, and we just didn’t see it this year”.

She concluded by admitting she felt this was something that could've been introduced into Dutton Ranch Season 1, “I think it’s something that was a missed opportunity, quite honestly. But we’re all both trying to start up these big shows. And I think we can see where there are gaps and we see where things needed to be fixed. And that’s what you get the opportunity to do in a Season 2”.

There has been a great deal of noise surrounding Dutton Ranch Season 2, with one of the show's stars, Ed Harris, who plays Everett, complaining that he felt “underused” in Season 1, while Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) confessed there had been “challenges”.

With the next instalment set to start production in early 2027, the Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, is due to be more hands-on for Season 2, now that show-runner Chad Feehan has departed. Season 2 of Marshals, meanwhile, airs on October 4th, 2026, so we suspect we may get this tantalising crossover before the year is out.
