In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Megan Moroney has put the speculation to bed, confirming that ‘Who Hurt You?’ was indeed about the person everyone suspected: Riley Green.

Moroney shares that she wanted there to be no doubt, “In ‘Who Hurt You?’ I made it so obvious who it’s about that it was, like, you could google it, and that was the point of ‘Who Hurt You?’ In the past I got frustrated with people. I was trying to hint at things, and then people would be like, “Who is it about?” And I was like, “You know what? I’m just gonna lay it out there. I might as well put his first and last name in it””.

And, as Moroney outlines, if you google ‘Who is Megan Moroney's ‘Who Hurt You?’ about?’, you will find confirmation that the track was inspired by the ‘Worst Way’ hitmaker. Moroney and Green were first romantically linked back in January 2025, with the duo being spotted on vacation in St. Barts at the same time. Then, shortly after the rumour mill had started to spin out of control, Moroney revealed to a fan that was wearing Green's t-shirt in the front row of a show that “He f***ed up!”

Moroney explains to Cosmopolitan that she didn't intend for ‘Who Hurt You?’ to be too deep, “Songwriting is fun, and it’s not meant to be taken so seriously. On ‘Break It Right Back’, which was on my last album, my dad was like, “You can’t say that.” But that’s because my dad was there and he knew that what I was saying happened exactly how I wrote it. And my dad was like, “You cannot put that out,” and I said, “It’s too late. It’s already been recorded. But thanks for your input””.

Elsewhere during Moroney's conversation with Cosmopolitan, the ’Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter underlines that, if Taylor Swift makes the shift to country that many are expecting this year, she would love to link up on a track with the pop phenom.

Moroney gushes, “I would pass out. I’ve not met her, so I feel like if we got to hang out, we would figure that out. I love her entire Red album, so I bet it would be something like that or even ‘Picture to Burn’. We could crush an idea like that. But she’s happy and in love now, so maybe I could go out on a limb and write a love song with her. I’m gonna be like, “Girl, you’re gonna have to tell me what it’s like””.

Moroney is currently in the middle of her 2026 Cloud 9 Tour, in celebration of the Georgia native's latest album, which features fan-favourites such as ‘Wish I Didn't’ and ‘Medicine’.
