In a new episode of his SiriusXM channel, Morgan Wallen Radio, Wallen has reflected on his longstanding friendship and collaborative partnership with HARDY and ERNEST.
Wallen, HARDY and ERNEST have been three of the most influential figures in Nashville for the best part of a decade now, with the trio penning an array of chart-toppers together.
HARDY and ERNEST have a dazzling catalogue of co-writes for Wallen, from the early days of ‘If I Know Me’ to recent cuts like ‘I Got Better’ and ‘Whiskey in Reverse’. HARDY even has a cameo in one of Wallen's first ever music videos, ‘Whiskey Glasses’.
While discussing his relationship with HARDY and ERN, Wallen underlines his respect and admiration for the two singer-songwriters, stressing how satisfying it has been seeing them all come up together and enjoy success in tandem with one another. They started off as part of the early Big Loud crew, writing for artists like Florida Georgia Line, before consolidating themselves as artists in their own right.
The Sneedville native muses, “Me, HARDY and ERN have kind of just come up together from Day One almost. Just to see how far all three of us have come, it's really impressive”.
He goes on to touch on what he thinks the secret recipe has been, “I'm proud of all three of us, you know, and I don't think we lack confidence in ourselves. Which has honestly helped, I would say, the confidence that we have in ourselves and in each other. The way that we've been not scared to try what we wanted to try, and a lot of times people try to prevent you from doing those things and no-one was able to do that with us. And I'm just really proud that we did what we wanted”.
Despite having written a plethora of songs together - with our personal favourite being the infectious and iconic ‘More Than My Hometown’ from Wallen's Dangerous era - we've never had a full-blown collaboration between these three.
We spoke to HARDY back in 2022 about the three artists finally releasing a song together, and he underlined that this will happen at some point, “Yeah definitely - I kind of can't believe we haven't done that yet. But it's definitely going to happen”.
He added the caveat that a collaborative song or project isn't “technically in the works yet”, but emphasised, “I can't wait for it...I feel like the three of us are doing something really cool, both together and separately. We've got to do a song together”.
There have been a multitude of duets, with Wallen linking up with HARDY for ‘He Went to Jared’, ‘red’, ‘In The Bible’, ‘Come Back As A Redneck’, ‘Take You Down’, ‘Goin’ Nowhere’ and ‘McArthur’, while the ‘Thought You Should Know’ singer-songwriter has joined forces with ERNEST on ’Flower Shops’, ‘The Dealer’ and ‘Cowgirls’.
And while they've toured and performed together a lot over the years, we're still waiting for a song featuring all three artists as lead vocalists. Given how long the prospect of a collaboration has been talked about, there is now a certain level of pressure and expectation, meaning the song-choice here has to be perfect.
But if we know this trio, they never stop writing, so we just hope they settle on a track to release together soon. Whether it appears on Wallen's I'm the Problem follow-up album - with the country titan confirming he's been working on new material lately - or whether they drop it as a standalone song, either way, we're sure this long-awaited Wallen, HARDY and ERN joint track will be well worth the wait.
