Morgan Wallen's ‘More Than My Hometown’ is undoubtedly one that fans hold particularly dear. In a new episode of Morgan Wallen Radio on SiriusXM, Wallen is opening up about why the nostalgic earworm also holds a deeper meaning for him.

Wallen co-wrote the track with three of his closest collaborators and friends, HARDY, ERNEST and Charlie Handsome, with the song going on to become one of the (many) chart-topping singles from the Sneedville native's 2021 double-album, Dangerous.

During a new episode of Morgan Wallen Radio, Wallen explains that, if he met someone who had never heard his music before and he wanted to give them a few good starting-points into his expansive catalogue, he'd pick ‘More Than My Hometown’ as one.

Wallen begins, “‘More Than My Hometown’, that's another song that's on my list, if I were to tell someone to listen to [one of my songs], if they had never heard my music before”.

He goes on to credit his buddy HARDY with sprinkling some of his secret songwriting sauce into that track, with the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper paying tribute to his pal, “That was one of the first one's that's got some HARDY magic on that song”.

In an earlier episode of Morgan Wallen Radio, Wallen shared his appreciation for HARDY, “HARDY is another guy who is a close friend of mine, who is really just a savant-level musician and songwriter. He's able to write any style of music and he's able to adapt to any style of music you want to write, and he's going to seem like an expert at it no matter what. It's a real blessing having him in our camp”.

Wallen concludes by highlighting how, while the track serves as an homage to his beloved hometown, it also carries a double-meaning that makes it extra special for him.

Wallen muses, “You know, obviously the song is a letter to your hometown, but it's also a letter to yourself, really, is what it is to me. You know, just about not changing for nothing”.

It touches on Wallen's loyalty to his roots and his hometown of Sneedville, Tennessee, which he also conveys in other fan-favourite gems, like ‘The Way I Talk’ and ‘Don't We’.

It's fascinating hearing the country titan reflecting on earlier tracks, like 2020's ‘More Than My Hometown’, and stressing that, despite since blossoming into one of the most popular artists on the planet, his perspective on where he grew up and the importance of finding time to return there hasn't changed with all the fame and success.

It's one of the reasons why you don't tend to hear much from Wallen when he's off tour and not in the midst of an album rollout, with the ‘Thought You Should Know’ singer-songwriter often touching on how he unwinds by spending time on his Tennessee farm.

Having said that, we continue to get rumblings and hints from Wallen that he is working on his I'm the Problem follow-up album, and given how many country anthems he has produced with HARDY, ERNEST and Charlie Handsome, we're hoping all three are at the heart of Wallen's writing and recording sessions over the next few months.
