One of Morgan Wallen's go-to producers, Charlie Handsome, has expressed his desire to help Wallen establish himself as a consistent chart-topping artist at Pop Radio. Handsome is the architect behind Wallen hits such as ’Last Night’ and ‘Wasted On You’.

As Handsome points out, Wallen already has a No. 1 at Pop Radio to his name in the form of ‘I Had Some Help’ with Post Malone - but Handsome wants one without a feature.

The prolific co-writer and producer, who has worked on hits by the likes of Drake, Post, Lil Wayne, Kane Brown, The Weeknd, Florida Georgia Line, Jack Harlow and more, explains, “I'll say this. One of my goals moving forward is for Morgan to be able to have No. 1 pop songs with no features. So even though his voice is definitely country, I feel like it could be the No. 1 song on Pop Radio. And obviously we did do that, but we did that with Post, who had done it before in that space”.

Handsome expands, “So I think, moving forward, I'm gonna merge more of the things that people could consider ‘pop’ and find a way to do that. But I don't know, there's a lot of things to it. There's a lot of things to it. What I try to do is not do the same thing twice, and that's where the challenge comes in, and every day in the studio, that is the challenge. It's like, how do I do something different today?”

Inevitably, Handsome's musings will cause a stir with some more traditionalist country fans. Wallen already gets flak from these factions of the genre for the pop and Hip Hop-inspired sonics he regularly introduces into his music, with the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker continuing to push the boundaries of what is considered ‘country’.

However, while there is always a place for honouring those who went before us in music, often this staunch loyalty to ‘tradition’ can hinder the evolution and progression of genres.

So Wallen and Handsome's dedication to experimenting with novel sounds and combinations of sub-genres can only be positive for country music, and with Wallen teasing a brand new pop-driven track, ‘Been By Now’, we can't wait to see which direction the Sneedville native goes in with his eagerly anticipated next studio album.

Given the buzz and momentum already behind ’Been By Now’, we think that, when Wallen eventually decides to release it, this one could be a contender for his next Pop No. 1.
