After teasing new music from his Stick Season era earlier in the week, Noah Kahan has now offered another hint as to what might be on the horizon. The Vermont hitmaker has shared a clip of his unreleased song, ‘Pain is Cold Water’, recorded during his momentous double-header of shows at Boston's Fenway Park in July.
Noah has been performing ‘Pain is Cold Water’ at a number of tour-stops this year, with fans clamouring for him to drop the introspective track. The song finds him crooning about the various negative traits he sees in himself, as he struggles to align his self-portrayal with the prospect of a relationship (“And if love was contagious, I might be immune to it / Pain's like cold water, your brain just gets used to it”).
It arrives after Noah Kahan shared a tantalising video suggesting he has “more up his sleeve” from his hugely popular Stick Season era, which many fans assumed had been completed once and for all with the release of Stick Season (Forever) in February.
As well as posting it to his Instagram and TikTok feed, Noah has uploaded the ’Pain is Cold Water’ snippet to his Instagram Story alongside a new ‘Pre-Save’ link, which suggests this ‘Live From Fenway Park’ version of the song will be made available to stream soon.
Fans are now speculating that Noah Kahan might be readying a Stick Season Live album to mark the conclusion of his sprawling, expansive We'll All Be Here Forever tour. The run is due to come to a close at the end of August, following his European leg.
As a result, it therefore seems we could be getting an official announcement before the end of the week, with the ‘You're Gonna Go Far’ singer-songwriter potentially dropping new music before the month is out. Excitingly, if it will feature ‘Pain is Cold Water’, this rumoured project could also include other unreleased tracks Noah has been performing out on the road, such as ‘The Great Divide’ and ‘Spoiled’.
