As Miley Cyrus famously declared in celebration of National Barbie Day, “Pink isn't just a color - it's an attitude”.
And judging by Megan Moroney's surprise announcement today (November 9th), we're in for plenty of pink-inspired attitude from the Georgia native over the next few months.
Well, it's been a journey, but we finally made it - and by the looks of it, pretty much every one of us was way off. First, Moroney teased us by hinting that the color theme would be yellow, and after that, she seemingly pivoted to purple. But it turns out this was all an expertly masterminded strategy to throwing us all off the scent.
After greying out her socials and replacing her website with an “Error 999” message, the ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter has now confirmed that her next era will be defined by ‘pink’. It follows the introductory green of her debut album, Lucky, and the now-iconic Am I Okay? blue that permeated her sophomore rollout.
As we've outlined previously, we have an inkling that the album is going to be called Cloud 9. Moroney has been sprinkling veiled clues relating to both ‘clouds’ and the number 9 throughout the past few months, and in this new teaser clip for the album, she walks through a blue room, before reaching the window and looking out to a pink backdrop. Through the window, before the camera switches to show her front-on, we get a glimpse of some pink-tinged clouds. What's more, the ‘Error 999’ message seems to consolidate these Cloud 9 suspicions. Lastly, it's surely no accident today's announcement came on November 9th. Perhaps we'll be getting the full album unveiling on December 9th...?
Although we didn't guess the color correctly, we think pink will be a fantastic, joyful color for this next chapter in Moroney's musical journey. The ‘Hair Salon’ hitmaker has been outlining that her third studio album will carry a lighter, happier ambience.
There's no release date just yet, but the eagerly anticipated project is expected to feature the lead singles, ‘Six Months Later’ and ‘You Had To Be There’ with Kenny Chesney.
We're hoping that, now we've got the long-awaited color palette for the project, the official release date announcement for the album won't be too far behind. It feels a little close to the Christmas period for Moroney to start rolling out the album before the end of the year, but we're holding out hope for an early 2026 arrival...
