Ian Noe has shared his touching response to Zach Bryan's new cover of Noe's ‘Kentucky Hurricane’, which Bryan uploaded to YouTube over the weekend with little explanation.
Bryan has made a point of doing his best to elevate up-and-coming artists, much in the same way that artists like Parker McCollum helped shine a light on him early in his career. He continues this with a full cover of ‘Kentucky Hurricane’, which appears on Noe's recently released studio album, Canyon Falls Trailer Band.
The video, which Bryan has posted via YouTube, finds the ‘Something in the Orange’ singer-songwriter performing the heartfelt track in the middle of a grand, sweeping park.
The clip opens on Bryan staring sombrely into the camera, while a fiddle plays in the background. The performance is interspersed with clips of Bryan's backing singers vocalising, with the choppy, eccentric filming capturing the untamed spirit of the song.
Noe has taken to social media to express both his surprise and gratitude at seeing the video, “Woke up to this. What an honor. And what a beautiful video. Thank you Zach”.
Although the Kentucky native is already a widely respected artist within the alt-country and Americana space, Bryan's new cover will no doubt serve as the first time lots of his fans are hearing about him. As a result, it will help bring swathes of new listeners to Noe's stellar new project, and hopefully to his back catalogue, as well.
It once again showcases how Bryan, at his heart, beneath all the record-breaking stadium shows and blockbuster collaborations, will always be a fan first, with the ‘I Remember Everything’ chart-topper using his platform to show love to other artists. It's something he regularly does through his much-loved Belting Bronco video series, but this marks a new format for Bryan to tip his cap to songs he likes.
With Bryan releasing his new EP, Young Manhood & Other Donatable Organs, last month, we're hoping he'll find time to hit the studio with Noe before the year is out - either to record a duet version of ‘Kentucky Hurricane’, or to pen an original collaboration.
