Zac Brown Band have shared an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Zac Brown and Mac McAnally paying tribute to Jimmy Buffett with a moving cover of ‘A Pirate Looks at Forty’.

McAnally joined Zac Brown Band for a heartfelt rendition of Buffett's iconic, wistful track during the group's momentous Fenway Park show, as well as covering Buffett's signature, tequila-soaked anthem, ‘Margaritaville’, during the stacked encore.

It was at this show that Zac Brown announced he'd be paying for everyone in attendance plus a friend to experience the band's Same Boat venue on the new Margaritaville at Sea cruise.

Brown and McAnally's take on ‘A Pirate Looks at Forty’ captures the gentle, nostalgic ambience of Buffett's original. While he inevitably became synonymous with his carefree, glass-half-full and light-hearted spirit, the ‘Margaritaville’ tycoon also had a striking ability to paint vibrant, eclectic pictures and convey a multitude of emotions through his writing - epitomised by this song.

In the caption, Brown shares, “Backstage with a @macmcanally singing one that never gets old, “A Pirate Looks at Forty.” Jimmy Buffett forever””. His wife, jewellery magnate Kendra Scott, has responded, ““Love this and you and Mac together is just pure magic!”

Brown and McAnally are two of the primary torch-bearers for Buffett's island-driven, beachside legacy, with both artists regularly covering the Alabama legend and honouring him in interviews. McAnally, of course, was one of Buffett's oldest friends in the music world, and remains a key member of his Coral Reefer Band.

Brown, meanwhile, collaborate on a number of occasions with the Gulf and Western trailblazer, with Buffett joining Zac Brown Band for ‘Knee Deep’ and ‘Same Boat’.

Although he's no longer with us, there's no question that the spirit of Buffet's music and his larger-than-life personality is living on with the help of artists like Brown and McAnally.

All of Buffett's variegated pursuits, from writing music to starting a wildly lucrative restaurant and hotel chain to creating musicals and everything in between, all served the same purpose of offering his beloved Parrotheads a way to escape into a whole other world. Buffett's catalogue captures the dreams that many of us have, and the ‘Bubbles Up’ singer-songwriter stood as a beacon of hope, joy and aspiration, proving that it's possible to do what you love and love what you do.

Whatever your dream might be, whether's it's something Buffett-esque like becoming a surfer or a musician, or something entirely different like becoming an accountant or a lawyer, either way, his music is both a reminder to never give up on what we love - and, of course, to always make time to kick back with an ice-cold margarita.
