Despite not attending the 2026 Emmys in-person, Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance during a pre-recorded Law & Order sketch with her friend, Mariska Hargitay. Hargitay plays Olivia Benson in the much-loved NBC series, which returns in October. There's even a cameo from one of Swift's cats, who is named after Benson.
And in true Taylor Swift fashion, Swift gave us a lot of easter eggs nestled within the brief sketch, which Swifties are speculating could point to new Taylor's Version releases of her debut album, Taylor Swift, as well as Reputation. There are potentially even a few clues about Swift's next original studio album, too.
There are a dizzying array of possible clues and hints in this amusing sketch, which finds Swift joining the Law & Order team as they attempt to figure out if Swift will attend the ceremony. But don't fret, we've compiled all the easter eggs we've spotted so far.
The first thing to note is all the ‘TV’ references. Aside from tying in with the fact that the Emmys are a celebration of the year's best TV shows, this feels like a clear nod to the Taylor's Version (TV) re-releases. There's a post-it note on the crime-board reading, “IS IT TV?”, while Hargitay exclaims, “The answer has been TV this whole time”.
There are a smattering of images on the board, too, that seem to point to songs from Swift's self-titled debut, such as a drawing of a guitar with someone crying above it - ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’ - as well as one depicting ‘Picture to Burn’.
Eagle-eyed fans have spotted the love-heart on the board, which is drawn in the exact same way as the love-heart that Swift drew on her foot during her debut album promo.
There's the series of words and phrase Swift suddenly declares to the camera - “Saccharide, Aries, From the Vineyard, North or South” - which remain a little enigmatic. But we're pretty confident that “From the Vineyard” refers to Swift's much-loved “From the Vault” tracks, which always feature on her Taylor's Version re-releases.
Some have been speculating that “Saccharide” is a nod to ‘Honey’, from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which was supposedly about her husband, Travis Kelce.
The number 40 appears a number of times on the crime-board, such as on a newspaper clipping of a story about childhood friends reuniting after 40 years. 40 days from the Emmys air-date is October 24th, the 20-year anniversary of Swift's debut album.
As well as containing a multitude of clues pointing to Swift's Taylor Swift re-release, Swifties have picked up on a range of easter eggs hinting at a Taylor's Version of Reputation.
The album artwork for Reputation can be seen in the top-right corner of the left-hand crime-board, while the news that ‘Season 6 premieres this year’ could be interpreted as a reference to the fact that Reputation was Swift's sixth studio album.
Crucially, Taylor Swift and Reputation were the only two albums left that still needed re-recording during Swift's masters dispute, before she officially bought them back in 2025. Some fans wondered whether she would still re-release them, given she no longer needed to. Now, after this sketch, it seems we have our answer.
There's an interesting theory blossoming about why Swift said “Aries” in the skit. The Aries sign is the ram, and the Kansas City Chiefs - her husband's team - play the Los Angeles Rams on December 3rd. This is a Thursday, and as we all know, new music tends to arrive on Thursday nights, potentially hinting at a release date.
What's more, December 3rd - 12/3 - has a connection to the “1, 2, 3, let's go b****es!” chant that fans shout when Swift performs her Reputation gem, ‘Delicate’. With this in mind, perhaps 12/3 is the release date for Reputation (Taylor's Version).
There's another date - “Tuesday 8am” - emblazoned on the crime-board, which makes us think Swift might be dropping a major announcement today (Tuesday, September 15th) at 8am. As for which time-zone this would be, we're not entirely sure.
There's also the clock, which reads 10:13, a potential easter egg pointing to 10/13, October 13th. This could be another release date, but this feels unlikely given it falls on a Tuesday. Perhaps this is actually what the “Tuesday 8am” is referring to. In addition, on one of the TV posters on the crime-board, you can see “April 9th” written.
There are a number of “13”s dotted around the crime-boards, too. This could simply be a nod to the fact that 13 is Swift's lucky number, or it could be a hint that, as well as readying Taylor's Version re-releases of Taylor Swift and Reputation, Swift might be preparing to announce her 13th original studio album for us, too.
There are likely so many more clues, easter eggs and hints sprinkled into this light-hearted Law & Order sketch, with a potential teaser of a forthcoming SNL appearance also on the board. A lot of this speculation might be baseless, but if we know one thing, it's that Swift is incredibly detail-oriented and loves to use easter eggs so that her loyal Swifties can find out about her new projects before anyone else.
If this conjecture is correct, then it could mean the ‘Cruel Summer’ hitmaker is releasing not one but three new projects in the coming months - Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version), Reputation (Taylor's Version) and a mysterious 13th original studio album.
With Swift teasing her return to country music, we suspect Taylor Swift will be the first of these to drop, so that she can perform material from that project at the 2026 CMA Awards.
Either way, after having to endue the best part of a year with no new Taylor Swift music, we're excited that it seems there are plenty of treats in store from the global phenom.
