With Morgan Wallen sharing photos hinting that he's returned to the studio to record new music, fans are speculating that this is a sign he's about to drop his Still the Problem deluxe album. And if that is indeed the case, then this could mean we're finally getting the extended version of ’Interlude’ with that long-rumoured Drake feature.
We think both Wallen and Drake have been sprinkling easter eggs throughout the past couple of years that they have a collaboration in the works, and with this new post from Wallen and the seemingly imminent announcement of a deluxe album, it certainly seems this keenly awaited genre-blurring link-up is finally on the horizon.
The Wallen and Drake conjecture has been fizzling across the country music landscape ever since the self-proclaimed ‘6 God’ recruited the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker for a surprising, left-field cameo in his 2023 music video for ’You Broke My Heart’.
Wallen's manager at the time, Tracker, confirmed he and Drake exchanged numbers and that they went on to become buddies, with Drake even appearing alongside Wallen during his momentous Houston, Texas walk-out at NRG Stadium last summer.
The duo have continued to show love to one another via social media, with Drake playing ‘Last Night’ and giving Wallen a shout-out during a high-profile live-stream, for instance, as well as donning a custom Wallen x Big Loud jersey in Berlin last September.
It's not yet been officially confirmed, but we're pretty confident that Wallen will be releasing a deluxe version of his 2025 album, I'm the Problem, cleverly titled Still the Problem. His 2026 tour is called Still the Problem, and he's already dropped a couple of extra singles, such as the ’Miami’ remix with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross and his now-iconic cover of Nothing But Thieves’ ’Graveyard Whistling’, both of which would be expected to feature on an expanded edition of I'm the Problem.
If there is a deluxe coming, then we would also expect it to include the long-teased extended version of ’Interlude’. Shortly after the album's arrival, Wallen replied to a fan that was asking for a longer rendition of ’Interlude’ via X (formerly Twitter) by pointedly stating, ”Noted”. As we all know, Wallen doesn't tend to post on unless it's to tease something. ‘Interlude’ has always been one of the most fascinating and puzzling tracks on I'm the Problem, clocking in at just 44 seconds long.
Its brevity isn't unusual for an album interlude, but what is a little strange is the fact that it appears at track No. 6. Usually an interlude would be placed closer to the midpoint of a project, and with I'm the Problem a whopping 37 songs long, the placement of ‘Interlude’ felt odd. But now, we think it was a strategic move from Wallen.
‘Interlude’ carries the hazy, neo-R&B and trap-infused ambience that Drake pioneered on albums like Take Care and Nothing Was The Same, and there's no question that this sound would mesh perfectly with the Toronto rapper's distinctive aesthetic.
What's more, the No. 6 has long been associated with Drake. He's known as the 6 God, as a reference to the ‘6’ or ‘6ix’ nickname of his beloved home-city of Toronto. His 2016 album, Views, was originally called Views from the 6, and Drake regularly uses the number as an ad-lib and as a way of expressing pride at where he's from.
Which has us thinking that Wallen's decision to place the mysterious I'm the Problem ‘Interlude’ at track No. 6 is a subtle way of hinting that Drake is going to appear on the song.
Blake Pendergrass, one of the writers on ’Interlude’, confirmed in a recent interview that the 44-second snippet is taken from a fully formed song, called ’Wrong Way’.
So we know there is a longer version of ’Interlude’ out there somewhere, and ever since Wallen's out-of-the-blue “Noted” response to that fan last year, we've been waiting for an announcement on when the full rendition of the track will be dropping.
With the Sneedville megastar's Still the Problem Tour kicking off on April 10th, we think he's planning to drop the deluxe version of I'm the Problem on the same day - which is handily a Friday, the day new music comes out. We expect this to include the ’Miami’ remix, ‘Graveyard Whistling’ and the full version of ’Interlude’, i.e. ’Wrong Way’. Who knows, perhaps he'll throw in a few extra songs as well.
Another potential easter egg to add into the mix is Wallen's comment on Drake's Instagram post last August. Drizzy shared a photo of what appears to be official unreleased merchandise - as in the label it reads ’Drake Related’, the name of Drake's store.
The t-shirt features a photo of the ‘One Dance’ chart-topper with the phrase, “I Miss You A Little Bit More Tonight” scrawled across the main image in vibrant blue lettering.
Wallen commented, “Jersey is hardbody”, which has us thinking this could be a lyric from their rumoured collaboration. Again, Wallen doesn't tend to interact much with social media unless he's teasing something - and he knows how dialled in his Wallenteer fanbase are to his easter eggs. It's possible, of course, that Wallen's potential Drake collaboration is not set to appear on a deluxe version of I'm the Problem, rather, it's being lined up for Drake's long-awaited Iceman project.
Regardless of whose album it would appear on, the timing feels perfect as the anticipation builds for Drake's next project - his first solo body of work since his explosive beef with Kendrick Lamar in 2024. A song with Wallen would almost definitely surge straight to No. 1 on the charts, and would signal a triumphant return for the 6 God. Additionally, a No. 1 courtesy of this country-crossover link-up would take Drake past Michael Jackson in the ranking of male solo artists with the most number-one hits - a milestone he has been eyeing up for some time now.
We'll have to wait and see whether Wallen drops an official announcement in the next few days, with that Friday, April 10th tour kick-off looking increasingly like a pivotal date in the calendar - both for fans of the country titan and the rap trailblazer.
