Could we finally be getting Drake's long-awaited foray into country music?
During a club set in his hometown of Toronto this weekend, Drake previewed a snippet of a ‘Choosin’ Texas’ remix. It finds the ‘Know Yourself’ rapper crooning across a hazy, trap-infused instrumental, with his laments mirroring the melody of Ella Langley's hook.
It comes after Drake was spotted singing along to ‘Choosin’ Texas’ at Langley's recent show in North Little Rock, Arkansas alongside ERNEST, with Drizzy and Langley then being photographed backstage. Drake has been showing love to the Alabama native throughout the year, playing the original ‘Choosin’ Texas’ during a Houston club set in June before calling her songwriting “goated” earlier in August.
While there's no release date for Drake's ‘Choosin’ Texas’ remix yet, it wouldn't be the first time he's dropped his own version of a popular song as a way of paying homage to it.
He famously released a reimagined version of Fetty Wap's ‘My Way’ in 2015, which in turn boosted Fetty's single, while Drake also jumped on Dave's ‘Wanna Know’ in 2016.
Although a full-blown country song would be brand new territory for the ‘Janice STFU’ hitmaker, it's not altogether unsurprising, with Drake flirting with the genre for years.
There's his longstanding friendship with Morgan Wallen, which saw him featuring Wallen as an unexpected guest in his 2023 ‘You Broke My Heart’ music video, wearing a custom Wallen x Big Loud jersey in Berlin during his 2025 Europe tour and then walking out with the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper in Houston last summer.
There were rumours Wallen would feature on Drake's ICEMAN, but they sadly didn't materialise - although Drake did give Wallen a shout-out on ‘White Bone’ (“Goin' to see Morgan, cowboy boots, rhinestones / Giddy up, cowgirl, Las Vegas timezone”).
He's always underlined his admiration for country music, name-checking the likes of George Strait and Shania Twain in his songs, and purchasing a sprawling ranch in Texas in 2023. Since that, he's tipped his cap to the genre we know and love on a number of occasions, both his through fashion choices and artist co-signs.
Despite just releasing not one but three new albums in 2026, ICEMAN, HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR, the global rap phenom continues to hint at another project on the horizon, the mysterious Fear Of Missing Out, which he's been teasing for months.
With the President of his OVO Sound label, Mr. Morgan, sharing in May that Drake would be running the summer and the winter, it seems he has plenty more music on the way. And what better means of kicking off another album rollout - potentially his first as an independent artist, if the rumours are true about him getting out of his Universal deal - than with a remix of the biggest song in the US right now.
With Drake one of the most versatile artists and Langley possessing one of the most infectious songs in today's landscape, we can't wait to hear the full version. When the remix does drop, it will surely give a little extra momentum to the original ‘Choosin’ Texas’ as Langley sets her sight on Mariah Carey's Billboard Hot 100 record.
