During the first episode of his week-long Jimmy Kimmel Live takeover, Jelly Roll interviews his good buddy Glen Powell about the latter's upcoming film, The Comeback King.

The long-teased movie, which stars Powell as a failed country and Western star and also features Cristin Miloti, Madelyn Cline and more, is set to premiere in February 2027.

While chatting to Powell about the new movie, Jelly reveals that the Twisters star got him a role in it, as well as confirming Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley also have cameos.

The ‘Need a Favor’ singer-songwriter begins, “You're working on a country music movie called The Comeback King, which he let me play a small part in, y'all. How cool is that?”

Powell then shares that he has to sing during the film, “It's a movie directed by Judd Apatow, Jelly crushes it. It's the first time I've ever sang on screen. I mean, it's in front of Jelly, Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley - the most terrifying experience of my entire life, but...the movie is fantastic and you crush it, absolutely”.

Jelly adds that he, Lambert and Paisley were trying to come up with some back-up music in case Powell didn't have his own material, “The best part was...we knew he was gonna sing, so me and Miranda and Brad were kind of leaning back and fumbling through some lyrics, because...we didn't know what you had”.

Jelly endearingly goes on to underline how impressed they all were by Powell's singing, “And then this dude started belting, y'all. It was like he'd been singing his whole life. It was unbelievable! It was unbelievable. Where did you get that voice from? Have you been singing your whole life, or is it something you did for the movie? Are you just that good you learned to be a singer in a few months for a movie?”

Powell responds, “I gotta give two people credit. I got a voice-coach named Eric Vitro who was fantastic. He was incredible. And then my mom, I grew up singing with my mom in nursing homes, and my little sister writes a lot of music on the movie and really walked me through the whole process. So I owe so much to her. But it was an incredible experience, but very terrifying, as you can probably imagine”.

He jokes about the reply he got from Jelly when he was testing the waters about how crazy he could make his scenes, “I...wrote it with Judd Apatow and I'm a little nervous about writing for Jelly, and...I sent him a voice-note, I got his number...I said, ‘Hey, what are sort of the limits of what I can write for you, and what I can't?’”

Powell then reads Jelly's hilarious response aloud: “Hey Glen, what's up, baby? Thanks for the message, dog. I love you. I love Judd. Thanks for the opportunity. Let me tell you something about myself. Y'all should know that, I hope you already know, but I don't give a f*** much about anything. Like whatever the wildest thing y'all can make happen for me, no limitations. If I eat the entire s*** sandwich, just like a complete maniac. Anyway, high excited. Love you man”.

We're excited to see if there are any more unexpected appearances from country stars in The Comeback King when it hits theatres early next year, with this marking Powell's latest country-inspired role, after Twisters in 2024, which featured a country soundtrack that included Luke Combs, Shania Twain, Lainey Wilson, Jelly and more.

Elsewhere during his new episode on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jelly made light of the fact that he was wearing a suit for the first time in his life, as well as offering some gentle but eyebrow-raising digs at President Trump about his weight and approval ratings.
