Lainey Wilson returns as the host of the 2026 CMA Awards next month, and during a new conversation on Amazon's Country Heat Weekly podcast, the ‘Heart Like a Truck’ hitmaker jokes that she has some big plans for Ella Langley at the ceremony.

When the co-hosts, Kelly Sutton and Amber Anderson, ask if she has a hand in the script-writing process, Wilson reveals that she has a sketch idea for her good friend Langley. The Louisiana native even says she's already told Langley about her plot.

Hilariously, Wilson wants to put together a play on the widespread expectation that Langley will “sweep up” all the major awards, “And I'll tell you one of my ideas, because I told Ella this. I said, girl, I'm going to bring you a bedazzled broom so she can sweep it up. What if I go up on stage with a bedazzled broom behind her?”

The ‘Country's Cool Again’ singer-songwriter amusingly goes on, “She's going to sweep it up”, before modestly quipping, “I'm going to be there with a bedazzled dustpan!”

Elsewhere during their conversation, Wilson sheds light on why she prayed over Langley backstage at the 2026 ACM Awards, when the ‘Choosin’ Texas’ crooner was feeling anxious. The moment, which Langley referenced during her Song of the Year acceptance speech, highlights the spirit of camaraderie that pervades today's country music landscape, particularly among the leading women in the genre.

The fact that female artists are dominating the scene in 2026 is showcased in the CMA Awards nominations, with Langley leading the way with nine nods, while Miranda Lambert follows closely behind with seven. Wilson has a tally of three nominations this year, an impressive feat given she hasn't released a full-length studio album.

We're excited to see whether Wilson was just messing around or whether she was serious about her bedazzled broom idea when the CMA Awards air on Wednesday, November 18th. Either way, it promises to be a spectacular evening, with Wilson, Langley, Molly Tuttle and Reba McEntire set to perform a tribute to Dolly Parton, while many other big-name artists are due to take the stage as well.
