During an episode of his new Morgan Wallen Radio Station on SiriusXM, Morgan Wallen has touched on his early influences, and shared the genre he listens to the most.

It's never been a secret that Wallen loves an eclectic range of musical styles and sub-genres, with the Sneedville megastar regularly infusing Trap or Hip Hop-leaning textures into his songs, epitomised by ‘180 (Lifestyle)’, ‘Miami’ and ‘Broadway Girls’.

Similarly, across his latest album, I'm the Problem, the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper showcased his unexpected penchant for more Alternative and Rock-leaning sonics, particularly on tracks like ‘Genesis’ and ‘Dark Til Daylight’. We got a hint that Wallen was a fan of this Indie Rock scene when he covered Nothing But Thieves’ ‘Graveyard Whistling’ back in 2024, with the official studio version dropping last October.

In one of the first episodes of his new Morgan Wallen Radio Station, Wallen has shed light on how his love for this genre was sparked, “From when I was a child, bands like Green Day...So maybe more like a Punk thing is what I was exposed to when I was younger, just because that's what was on Pop Radio at the time, and I always liked that. But I never really got a chance to diver deeper. I actually, when I first bought a CD, I went more into the heavier Rock, it was like, you know, Breaking Benjamin and things like that. That's what I liked when I was that age”.

He explains that he's since been delving into the modern trailblazers of the genre, “Now that I've gotten more exposed to some of the other Alternative and Indie Rock bands, I really just like the sounds and how compressed and how clean [they are] and how all that goes together. That's just what I listen to most right now”.

While Wallen has explored collaborations with a host of artists from the rap world, such as Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross - with rumours of a blockbuster Drake link-up still fizzling excitedly across social media - he is yet to drop a full-blown Indie Rock duet. We think Wallen's gritty, charismatic vocals would lend themselves perfectly to a fiery, electric-guitar fuelled anthem.

One of Wallen's best buddies in Nashville, HARDY, often ventures into the rock sphere, as he demonstrated on the lauded Quit!! and the mockingbird & THE CROW. Wallen has leant his vocals to a couple of Indie Rock-infused HARDY tracks over the years, such as ‘Turn You Down‘ from the first HIXTAPE project and ‘Goin‘ Nowhere’ from HIXTAPE, Vol. 2. The latter even featured the Foo Fighters’ Chris Shiflett.

As the anticipation builds ahead of Wallen's 2026 Still the Problem Tour, which kicks off this Friday (April 10th), speculation continues about a potential deluxe album of the same name.

With Wallen also debuting some live versions of tracks such as ‘20 Cigarettes’, ’Chasin’ You’ and ‘Dark Til Daylight’ via Morgan Wallen Radio, we're wondering whether he might actually be gearing up to release his first ever live album, instead of a deluxe.

Either way, we suspect - and hope - Wallen has something up his sleeve to celebrate the start of his 2026 tour. If there is a deluxe album on the horizon, we'd love to see an Alternative and Indie Rock collaboration in the mix, as a testament to the ‘Love Somebody’ singer-songwriter's ongoing relationship with the genre.
