Country Megastar Morgan Wallen has released a short teaser via Instagram today (July 15) of a potential new song, currently untitled, but judging by the short repetition of a potential chorus, it might be safe to theorize the song name is “Been by Now.”
Floating in the thresholds of his social media, Morgan sits at a black piano wearing his signature snapback hat, singing this new teaser pretty passionately. The lyrics read as a song centered around heartbreak, paired with a soft, simple chord progression played on his piano, seemingly just vulnerable enough to perhaps have been written from first-hand experience.
Telling the story of someone perhaps in the beginning of the end of a romantic relationship, In this 56-second snippet, Morgan personifies a character in realization and painful wonder, singing:
“We don’t even fight like we used to, we don’t even care enough to cry no more, it’s been 100 nights since I knew you, how long are we going to keep looking at that door?”
The snippet then progresses, where Wallen draws harsh-reality conclusions about the emotional state of the relationship, going on to sing in retrospect of the one thing that comes easy in it.
“If it was meant to be, we’d have been by now, we wouldn’t have to keep trying to work things out, and baby we’re a breeze when the lights go down, it wouldn’t be so hard when we ain’t in the dark”
Chance would be a fine thing, right Morgan?
The clip suddenly closes in the characters’ final thoughts, the kind that are difficult to take back once expressed to a partner. In admittedly telling the truth, the narrator offers peace for both in the midst of sadness.
“We were in the stars they’d align right up, and maybe from the start we’ve been trying too much, I know we wanna think that it’s what we found, but if it was meant to be, we’d have been by now, been by now”
Though unsure of whether this potential track is to be released as a single, a part of an upcoming album, or something entirely different, Morgan’s loyal fanbase have already taken to the internet to express their excitement, with his Instagram comments already pleading “Release it!” and “Please I’m obsessed and need it!!”
