Former The Voice contestant Dylan Carter has died aged 23, after suffering blunt force trauma, due to injuries sustained in a car crash in South Carolina on Saturday, April 25th.
As confirmed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Carter was involved in a single-car crash with a 2026 Tesla. The Tesla reportedly left the road and struck a curve, utility pole and fence before overturning, with the driver later dying at a local hospital.
The Mayor of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, paid tribute to Carter in a heartfelt Facebook post the following day, “Our family is heartbroken to hear about the passing of Dylan Carter in a car accident. As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events. His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt”.
Reba McEntire, who was Carter's coach on The Voice Season 23, has offered an homage via Instagram, “We will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend”.
During his blind audition back in 2023, Carter impressed the entire judging panel and earned a rare four-chair-turn from McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and John Legend. Carter performed a stellar rendition of Whitney Houston's ’I Look to You’, which he dedicated to his late mother, who had passed the year before.
Following Carter's stint on The Voice, he became a licensed realtor and took a role at Carolina Properties. On the company's website, he shared, “After turning four chairs on The Voice and choosing Reba as my coach, I have decided to chase a music career and become known as a realtor by day and singer/songwriter by night!”
In his obituary, Carter's family describe him as “A man of deep faith, Dylan was a member of St. George Methodist Church. He loved the Lord and lived his life with kindness, warmth, and joy. He was truly loved by all who knew him and leaves behind a lasting impression on everyone he met”. Carter's funeral takes place on Saturday, May 2nd.
