“I Needed to Hear That Today”: Thomas Rhett Opens Up About Exhaustion as He Reads New ‘Jesus Calling’ Passage

Thomas Rhett is getting candid about his struggles with exhaustion and busyness during his time off from touring, with TR reading a new passage from his Jesus Calling devotional.

Rhett has been reading portions of the famous devotional, which was written by Sarah Young, via his Instagram Stories and TikTok. It comes after the Georgia native shared his desire to be more open with followers about his Christian faith.

The ‘Look What God Gave Her’ hitmaker has always made a concerted effort to sprinkle his belief in God and Jesus into his music, epitomised by heartfelt songs like ‘Ya Heard’.

More recently, with Rhett collaborating on new music with Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer Brandon Lake, and with Forrest Frank revealing that Rhett has been sending him Gospel-driven songs, it seems he might be working on a Christian album.

In this new clip, Rhett begins by joking about how exhausted he appears, “Good morning, y'all. About 7 o'clock, and if it looks like I'm tired, it's because I am, and if it looks like I need a haircut, it's because I do. Just wanted to read this to y'all. I've been off the road for a couple weeks and getting back after it this weekend”.

He goes on, “But whenever I'm home during the school year for a couple weeks, I'm always just so exhausted by school schedules and sports schedules and all the things”.

Rhett then begins the passage, “And I just wanted to read this because I feel like it's such a good reminder. This is September 8th, Jesus Calling, and it says, “Accept each day exactly as it comes to you, and by that I mean not only the circumstances of your day, but also the condition of your body. Your assignment is to trust Me absolutely, resting in My sovereignty and faithfulness. On some days, your circumstances and your physical condition feel out of balance””.

He continues, ““The demands on you seem far greater than your strength. Days like that present a choice between two alternatives: giving up or relying on Me. Even if you wrongly choose the first alternative, I will not reject you. You can turn to Me at any point, and I will help you crawl out of the mire of discouragement. I will infuse My strength into you moment by moment, giving you all that you need for this day. Trust Me by relying on me and in My empowering presence””.

The ‘What's Your Country Song’ singer-songwriter underlines how this passage felt like perfect timing, “I needed to hear that today so bad. I don't know if y'all did, but you ever just have those weeks where it's like, you know, like on a Wednesday morning, you wake up and you're like, "Gosh, we got two more days of school and work and and all the things”, and man, it's just an encouragement for me today”.

The country chart-topper emphasises, “Just no matter what my circumstances are, I get to constantly call on His name, and that same access is open for everybody, which I think is just so amazing. So, whatever you're doing today, I'm sure a lot of y'all woke up at 4:30am and hit, you know, some CrossFit, worked out. For those of you that are that type of person, congratulations. I'm not that type of person”.

Rhett concludes with a touching message for fans, “Whatever today presents you, just accept it as it comes and know that He walks with you every single step of the way. I love y'all. Very excited for this weekend to get back on the road, Louisville, Kentucky, Columbus, Ohio and Cleveland. It's going to be such an awesome weekend. Praying over all of you this morning. Praying that the rest of your weeks go well. And yeah, can't wait to see you guys this weekend. Have a great day”.

With Rhett kicking off his tour this week, we hope he'll debut more spiritually-minded material from his next record, as well as continuing these devotionals while out on the road. So far, it feels like these passages are not only helpful to his fans, but also to Rhett himself, as he strives to lean on God, rather than his own understanding.
