“I Can’t Do This On My Own”: Brandon Lake Reflects on Masculinity and Faith in Heartfelt New Video

Brandon Lake has taken to social media to share some heartfelt thoughts on masculinity and faith, with the ‘Gratitude’ hitmaker encouraging his followers - especially men, in this instance - to stop trying to control everything and give it all up to God.

Via an Instagram video recorded in his truck, Lake begins, “Just worshiping this morning in the car, in the truck, and man, I just want to say, like, it doesn't matter how manly you might be or how good your life is. For all my men out there, nothing beats the need and the feeling and the surrender of just taking a moment and literally doing this”, with Lake then holding his palms upwards in an act of surrender.

The ‘How Good God Is’ crooner goes on, “Just releasing control, even if it's for like three minutes, five minutes today, but just kind of sitting back and taking on this posture. That might be cheesy, but this is what you need to do. You just need to do this”.

He continues, “Even if it's just for a moment, have you surrendered today? Have you put Him on the throne of your life today? Don't try to do it in your strength. The quickest way to relinquish control for me is to put on something that just gets me in the spirit and to physically let go of my hands and put myself in a position that feels uncomfortable, but that communicates physically what my heart is saying”.

Lake declares, “I can't do this on my own. I need you. You're in control. Take control. I'm telling you guys - men especially, because I know this seems all feely, touchy-feely, and maybe it is. But get over yourself, open your hands, and just worship, and just let Him take control. Let Him take over. Let Him anoint you afresh. Let Him baptize you in His spirit. Let Him love on you. Ain't no man out there so manly, so tough, so put together that doesn't need God's love, the One that made you.”

He concludes, “[He] has better plans for your life than you have for yourself. Coming from a guy that often feels like I got this. No, I don't. No, I don't. But He does. Sometimes I got to remind myself He does. I don't. I love you guys. I hope this helps somebody”.

It's the latest in a string of powerful videos shared by Lake, where the ‘Just Believe’ singer-songwriter addresses followers and offers them some words of wisdom and encouragement.

It ties in with his latest release, ‘How Good God Is’, which is all about how he learnt the most about God and Jesus when he was at his weakest and most vulnerable, rather than when he was on top of the world and everything was coming up roses.

The evocative, soul-stirring song expected to be a cornerstone of Lake's next chapter of music, with the genre-blurring artist continuing his foray into the country space.
