Ella Langley has seemingly responded to Riley Green's comments on The Voice, after many fans interpreted Green's remarks as an attempt to take credit for Langley's success.

While trying to convince country duo Ferryn & Brinkley to join his team, he likened them to Langley, “There's a girl that reminded me a lot of y'all. I took her on tour with me. Her name's Ella Langley”. He then quipped, “She's doing pretty well”.

Some fans took umbrage with this last line, accusing the ‘Worst Way’ hitmaker of suggesting that Langley's fame is at least partially down to the fact that he took her on tour with him.

It seems Langley shares their frustration, with the ‘Choosin’ Texas’ chart-topper appearing to respond to one fan's question during an Instagram Live asking, “When Riley took credit for your success on the voice did that rub you the wrong way?!”, with, “Yeah, when that man took credit, no, didn’t love that. But typical. Pretty typical”.

It's not 100% clear that Langley was referring to Green's comments on The Voice, but the fan question and the timing of the Instagram Live - which took place ahead of her Red Rocks Amphitheatre show last week - felt pointed, to say the least.

Adding to the intrigue was Langley's decision to unfollow Green on Instagram last week, with the move sparking widespread speculation online. Now, with these Instagram Live remarks, fans are suggesting the incident on The Voice is why she unfollowed him.

You can definitely understand why Langley would feel hurt by any implication that she's only famous because of Green, as her success and record-breaking run atop the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Choosin’ Texas’ is undoubtedly down to her talent and hard work.

But at the same time, when watching Green's comments on The Voice, they did feel tongue-in-cheek and light-hearted, with his remark that “She's doing pretty well” definitely an intentional understatement, given Langley has the biggest song in the country. What's more, he was pitching to Ferryn & Brinkley, so of course he's going to try and present things in a way that's favourable to him as a coach.

It all seems like a lot of hubbub over very little, and serves as the latest chapter in a longstanding series of apparent disputes and thinly veiled jabs involving Langley and Green.

After the rumoured love triangle between Green, Langley and Megan Moroney, which led to Moroney writing ‘Who Hurt You?’ about Green, country fans’ antennae are sensitively attuned to any hint of any digs or disses between these three artists.

Therefore, both Green and Langley must've known that their comments would reignite the online rumour mill. And sure, it's hard not to talk about one another when every interview features a question on either ‘you look like you love me’ or ‘Don't Mind If I Do’. But it feels like the smart approach now would be to just let sleeping dogs lie, and hopefully the news cycle will stop revolving around their supposed beef.
