Brandon Lake is not slowing down following the release of his latest single, ‘How Good God Is’, with the ‘Gratitude’ hitmaker debuting two new songs at his recent run of shows.
Lake performed ‘Bones and Boots’, which he co-write with HARDY during his country-leaning writing retreat earlier in the year, along with his unreleased fan-favourite, ‘Hell No’. Lake shared a clip of ‘Bones and Boots’ on Slide 3 of a new Instagram carousel.
Lake discussed ’Bones and Boots’ during an interview with Katie Neal earlier in the summer, donning the HARDY collaboration “one of my favourite songs” to come from that retreat.
The ‘I Know a Name’ crooner gushed, “It is a HARDY type song. But also feels like me, and the whole idea is like, you know, when I'm dead and gone...if you come looking for me, all you're going to find is bones and boots...It's real fun...It's like how we wrote about Heaven in this style of song, I don't know, but it really is...super fun. And it sounds like when you hear the title ’Bones and Boots’ how you'd imagine”.
‘Hell No’ is another keenly anticipated unreleased song, which is widely expected to be on Lake's forthcoming record, with fans clamouring via the comments for the Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer to drop the uplifting anthem.
Lake continues to venture further into the country music space, following stellar collaborations with the likes of Lainey Wilson, Bailey Zimmerman, Cody Johnson and more.
In a way, Lake has become the touchstone for how to move between the Christian and country worlds, with the boundary dividing the two becoming increasingly malleable as other artists like Anne Wilson, Josiah Queen, Chris Tomlin and Forrest Frank flit between them. And it feels like a very organic development, given how Christian themes and ideas have always been at the heart of country storytelling, with numerous artists from George Strait and Dolly Parton to Carrie Underwood and Florida Georgia Line having released Gospel-inspired music.
Lake's next record, which will seemingly blur the lines between Contemporary Christian Music and country, is expected to feature Dan + Shay, HARDY, Thomas Rhett, Tyler Hubbard and numerous other high-profile figures within the Nashville scene. And after hearing ‘Bones and Boots’ and ‘Hell No’, we can't wait for the full record.
